VA - The Legendary Story of SUN Records (2002)
Release: 2002 | Track: 60 (2CD) | Format: MP3 CBR 320 Kbps | Size: 366 MB
Genre: Rock & Roll, Country-Pop, Rockabilly | Label: Metro
Metros double-disc The Legendary Story of Sun Records is a decent general retrospective of the seminal labels output, offering a good sampling of its blues, country, and rockabilly material. Little Juniors Blue Flames "Mystery Train," Johnny Cashs "Folsom Prison Blues," and Carl Perkins "Blue Suede Shoes" provide definitive examples of all of these styles, and while its true that this collection reprises many of the highlights found frequently on other Sun compilations -- particularly Roy Orbisons "Ooby Dooby," Jerry Lee Lewis "Great Balls of Fire," and Bill Justis "Raunchy" -- it does dig a little deeper into the labels catalog. The Million Dollar Quartets "Peace in the Valley" and "Down by the Riverside" arent frequently heard on this kind of collection, so they make a nice counterpart to the better-known "Paralyzed." Likewise, Barbara Pittmans "I Need a Man," the Prisonaires "Just Walking in the Rain," Howlin Wolfs "Color and Kind (Look-A Here Baby)," and Malcolm Yelvingtons "Its Me Baby" give the collection a little more depth than might be anticipated. Tracks by Carl Mann, Rosco Gordon, Sonny Burgess, and Little Milton round out this compilation, which may not be definitive but does manage to be better than average in terms of quantity and quality.

Storyline: The story of the monumental life and tragic death of legendary Brazilian motor-racing Champion, Ayrton Senna. Spanning the decade from his arrival in Formula One in the mid 80s, the film follows Sennas struggles both on track against his nemesis, French World Champion Alain Prost, and off it, against the politics which infest the sport. Sublime, spiritual yet, on occasion, ruthless - Senna conquers and transcends Formula One to become a global superstar. Privately, he is humble, almost shy, and fiercely patriotic, donating millions to his native Brasil and contemplating a life beyond motor-racing. Yet he is struck down in his prime on the blackest weekend in the history of the sport, watched live on television by 300 million people. Years on he is revered in Formula One as the greatest motor racing driver of all time - and in Brasil as a Saint.

The unlikely story of how, between 1929 and 1945, a group of tweed-wearing radicals and pin-striped bureaucrats created the most influential movement in the history of British film. They were the British Documentary Movement and they gave Britons a taste for watching films about real life. They were an odd bunch, as one wit among them later admitted. "A documentary director must be a gentleman... and a socialist." They were inspired by a big idea - that films about real life would change the world. That, if people of all backgrounds saw each other on screen - as they really were - they would get to know and respect each other more. As John Grierson, the former street preacher who founded the Movement said: "Documentary outlines the patterns of interdependence".

Film about the drawings of Michelangelo and the way that they illuminate this life, his artistic development, his religion and his inner torments. The film is presented Neil MacGregor Director of the British Museum and is filmed on location in Florence and in the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelos drawings are some of the greatest of all time. Fragile survivals from over 500 years ago, they can be studied and admired as things of great technical skill and enormous beauty, but they show us something else as well: they show us Michelangelo thinking. Michelangelo would have felt exposed seeing us look at his drawings. And thats what makes them exciting: they give us a thrilling insight into how this genius sculptor, architect and painter worked: they bring us closer to the master. From pen studies made when he was in his early twenties to the visionary crucifixion scenes carried out six decades later, shortly before his death, this film illuminates the high points of Michelangelos career.

#18: Film Digital Techniques for Zone System Photography
Publisher: Amherst Media | 2008 | ISBN: 1584282274 | English | True PDF | 128 pages | 3.9 Mb
Avid art photographers will learn how to model their work after legendary black-and-white photographer Ansel Adams in this instructional guide. Adams’ methodology, known as the Zone System, takes what the viewer will see—the final print—into consideration at the beginning of the photographic process, rather than focusing strictly on what the photographer sees. Once this concept, called “previsualization,” is presented and defined, the book then follows a step-by-step approach to incorporating these ideas into all aspects of the photographic process, including lighting, exposure, development or digital editing, and printmaking or output of digital images. Whether working in film or digital media, these steps will foster early accuracy and elicit better source material from a camera, which allows for greater control and contrast in the lab or on a printer.
