Only one title on the second volume of the three-volume Good Vibrations best-of series cracked the U.S. top 10, 1964s "When I Grow Up to Be a Man." (Five of the selections here made the U.K. charts--"Do It Again," "I Can Hear Music," "Break Away," "Darlin," and "Cottonfields.") In contrast to its loaded-with-hits predecessor, Greatest Hits Volume 1: 20 Good Vibrations, Volume 2 serves up songs that stand as second-tier Beach Boys--but only in commercial terms. The likes of "In My Room," "Dont Worry, Baby," "Caroline, No," and "Heroes and Villains" stand well above Volume Ones "409," "Little Deuce Coupe," and "Sloop John B" in their contribution to the groups incredible legacy. Those hungry for hits will want to stick with the earlier volume, but burgeoning Beach Boys boosters will find this 20-song set every bit the match--and arguably the subjugator--of its all-hits forerunner.

"Said to have extended their recording contract, things look set to continue for Westlife despite the "kiss of pop death" that is the greatest-hits collection. Unbreakable features the very best of their first three albums, their Top 10 hits and the lead single and title track, which was newly recorded for this album. It includes memorable covers, such as the Christmas single "I Have a Dream" by Abba, the duet of a Phil Collins song with Mariah Carey ("Against All Odds") and, like Boyzone before them who did "When the Going Gets Tough", the Comic Relief charity record "Uptown Girl" by Billy Joel. Its quite impressive that half of the songs here have hit the top spot as an A-side, making it a far more appealing album than any of their others, as there simply isnt room for the customary fillers that litter such artists albums. So with their past encapsulated on one disc, its time to look to the future for Westlife, although with lessons learnt from Take Thats Greatest Hits, Boyzones By Request, Steps Gold and possibly the Backstreet Boys Greatest Hits, no one should be holding their breath"

This great album compiles Eddy Grant’s greatest hits and also offers some excellent 12-inch dance remixes of his best songs. Not only does Grant have a talent for catchy tunes, but his lyrics are very intelligent, often having a message of some sort as in the song about democracy in South Africa called Gimme Hope Joanna.

Out of all the Beatles, John Lennon had the most interesting -- and frustrating -- solo career. Lennon was capable of inspired, brutally honest confessional songwriting and melodic songcraft; he also had a tendency to rest on his laurels, churning out straight-ahead rock & roll without much care. But the extremes, both in his music and his life, were what made him fascinating. Where Paul McCartney was content to be a rock star, Lennon dabbled in everything from revolutionary politics to the television talk-show circuit during the early 70s. After releasing a pair of acclaimed albums, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, in the early 70s, Lennon sunk into an infamous "lost weekend" where his musical output was decidedly uneven and his public behavior was often embarrassing. Halfway through the decade, he sobered up and retired from performing to become a house-husband and father. In 1980, he launched a comeback with his wife Yoko Ono, releasing the duet album Double Fantasy that fall. Just as his career was on an upswing, Lennon was tragically assassinated outside of his New York apartment building in December of 1980. He left behind an enormous legacy, not only as a musician, but as a writer, actor and activist.
